All of us are guilty of procrastination. It is important to consider that it's not simply about putting things off, it's about a failure to plan. We all intend to do the needed tasks, but we put off making a decision or commitment until later. Unfortunately it has consequences for others. Scouting events are planned months in advance, venues have to be secured, staff recruited, trained and finally people must commit to participate. We are seeing more and more that people delay making a decision until the last minute. This is very disruptive to the planning process because the planners can't gauge the interest and the level of participation. Hosting an event and having very few participants is a poor use of volunteer time. Not having enough supplies because more people than expected show up at the last minute can put a damper on the activity.
We have a number of activities coming up very soon and the rate of signups are lagging. This makes it very difficult to plan and execute successful events. Please take the time to sign up for the upcoming training and activities.
Cub-A-Palooza October 7-8, 2017 Camp Wisdom
Join us for a fun adventure at Cub-A-Palooza with activities for the entire family! The force is strong, so come dressed as your favorite Star Wars character and compete for the best costume!
Accomplish rank achievements while you have fun with your pack and family. We’ll have activities all day and a carnival in the evening. If you are a Bear Den leader, plan and run a carnival game to accomplish an adventure.

Boy Scout Leader Specific / Outdoor Leader Training -- October 4,11
Registration is now available. Boy Scout Leader Specific is a two evening course which will expand on and clarify your understanding of the scout program. The course addresses how and why it works and will help you to insure the success of scouts in your unit. This course is for all adults including parents, committee members and front line leaders. This class meets on two Wednesday evenings, October 4th and October 11th.
The companion course, "Outdoor Leader Specific Training" is a hands on experience where you participate as your scout would in the actual planning and execution of a scout campout. You will learn by doing at the direction of an experienced leadership team. Expect to learn a lot and have a very enjoyable weekend experience. Advance registration and preparation is required. The event will be held Saturday-Sunday October 21-22 at Camp Wisdom. More information and registration.

Backcountry Advanced Training
Philmont bound? BAT is a two evening course and campout which will equip both adults and scouts with the knowledge and skill needed for a successful backcountry experience. Information and registration for Backcountry Advanced Training now available. Classes are October 12th and 19th. Campout is the weekend of October 27-29, 2017. More information and registration.
The key to success in all of the scout programs is training. A day of training is scheduled for Saturday October 14th at Epiphany Episcopal Church in Richardson. Offerings include Life to Eagle, Merit Badge Counselor, Chartered Organization Representative, Face to Face youth protection, Cubmaster Specific, Pack/Troop committee member training and Den Leader Specific Training. District committee Training Workshop, East Central Service Area - Saturday, November 4, 2017

2017 Northern Trail Video Contest
Hollywood has the Oscars®, Cannes has the Palme d’Or, Berlin has the Golden Bear and Northern Trail has the Camera d’Kaki? Camera d’Kaki? The Camera d’Kaki is the prize for the winner of the Peoples’ Choice winner of the 2017 Northern Trail Video Contest. The 2017 Northern Trail Video Contest is an opportunity to create either (1) a 30 to 60 second public service announcement or (2) a 3- to 5-minute mini documentary that could be used for recruiting Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts or Venturers. (The video may help fulfill the requirements for the Webelos Moviemaking elective or the Moviemaking Merit Badge.)
Any Northern Trail unit (Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop, Varsity Team, or Venture Crew) or any registered Boy Scout or Venturer in a unit in a Northern Trail District unit. The video can be created by an individual scout or a unit, but not more than one video may be submitted per unit. Except for Packs, one youth must be designated lead producer/director for the video. The video must be made in 2017. Entries must be submitted/uploaded between October 1 and November 1, 2017.
