Northern Trail District

Happy New Year

Here are some resolutions!

Delinquent Charter?

If you are reading this and have not re-chartered your unit, you are now delinquent. All is not lost, while you are in the doghouse, there is a grace period before your unit is dropped. So please take steps to get this done ASAP. No excuses, if you need help, help is available. Contact Joe Tavares or Chad Caudle Your scouts are depending on you to complete this important task.

If your unit chair is hounding you about Youth Protection Training, application form or dues, please heed the request and complete these tasks ASAP. He or she can't complete the re-charter without your help. Online training is available here: The training does not take very long and is not difficult.

Please, if you have not done so, send a copy of your unit roster to Chad Caudle ASAP. This will be a tremendous help to Chad.

Boy Scout Roundtable, Tuesday, January 9, 2018

Retention: First, there is recruiting then comes retention. It's a never-ending battle faced by corporations, universities, and yes even by Boy Scouts leaders. Our topic at your January Boy Scout Roundtable is "All About Retention."

Bring your ideas and your tricks-of-the-trade to share with other Troops. Come ready to get new ideas for honing your retention skills, or just to learn about it for the first time. Everyone is invited and welcome. We have a seat saved for you.

At Roundtable, it's about our organization competing against other organizations rather than my troop competing with your troop. Attending strengthens us.

Cub Scout Roundtable, Thursday, January 11, 2018

It's Racing Season! Racing in a Cub Scout derby is great fun. Each Scout gets to design a racing vehicle, work with a parent or other adult to build it, and see it perform on race day. Win or lose, Scouts can take pride in having done their best. Participants learn craft skills, the rules of fair play, and good sportsmanship—things they will remember all their lives. We will have a Pinewood Derby expert as our guest speaker. Come learn some techniques on how to run a successful Derby for your pack.

Wood Badge

Change your life and make an impact on scouting at the same time. I've have never met anyone who did not admit that they benefited both personally and professionally through their participation in Wood Badge Training.

This program builds on the best traditions and experiences of past Wood Badge sessions and also draws from a wide range of sources within and beyond the bounds of Scouting to present the latest in leadership theory and team development. More information.

Wilderness First Aid classes for 2018

This is the 16 hour ECSI course designed by Philmont and meets the requirements for the BSA High Adventure Bases. Read more.

Commissioner Staff Meeting

Due to the proximity to the holiday, the District Commissioner meeting is canceled for January. Next meeting is February 6 and we'd like to see a good showing as we effectively kick off 2018 at that meeting with revised Goals and Objectives. All Commissioners are, of course, Committee Members because of their position and are encouraged to attend the January District Committee Meeting.

District Committee Meeting

Due to the proximity to the holiday, the district committee meeting has been moved to Thursday January 4, 2018 at 7:00pm. Note the earlier start time of 7:00PM!

Kidde Fire Extinguisher Recall

Nearly 38 million fire extinguishers manufactured by Kidde and sold between 1973 and 2017 are part of a nationwide recall. Scout leaders should check their unit meeting sites, troop trailers, trunks and garages today to see whether their fire extinguishers are included. There have been nearly 400 reports of affected models failing to activate in a fire emergency, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The CPSC cites one death and 16 injuries. The affected models of Kidde (pronounced “kidda”) include plastic-handle fire extinguishers and plastic push-button fire extinguishers. Check for list of specific units which are being recalled.

Circle Ten Xperience (CTX) is coming! November 9-11, 2018

Texas Motor Speedway--Be There, Be There , Be There! And Be Prepared to participate in this Extraordinary Experience. We heard your feedback from 2015—CTX 2018 will be bigger and better!
